Paired syringes connected by tubing form a closed hydraulic circuit. Pressing the master syringe transmits pressure through the water and drives the slave syringe, which lifts the bridge deck. There is no electronics at all, which is exactly why it works so well for younger classes.
Because the fluid is effectively incompressible, force applied at one end appears at the other — Pascal's principle made visible. Using syringes of different diameters lets you demonstrate mechanical advantage: a larger slave cylinder lifts more with the same input force but moves a shorter distance.
It is reliable, it survives being carried, and there is nothing to fail on the day. For Class 6 to 8 it is one of the most dependable exhibition choices available.
Air compresses, so a pneumatic version feels spongy and the lift lags the input. Water is effectively incompressible, which is the whole point of the demonstration — and a good question to be ready for.
The action becomes soft. Purging the air is a two-minute procedure and we show you how to do it, since it is the only maintenance this model needs.
