Conductive probes at four heights in the tank complete a circuit through the water as the level rises, lighting a corresponding LED on the indicator panel and sounding a buzzer at the full mark. It is a classic project precisely because the underlying idea — water conducts, so use it as a switch — is easy to explain and easy to test in front of an examiner.
The version with pump control adds a relay that cuts the motor at the full level and restarts it at the low level, which is the practical form actually used in buildings. That also gives you a hysteresis question to answer: why the pump restarts at the low probe and not the moment the level drops below full.
An ultrasonic variant is available where a non-contact measurement is preferred, giving a continuous reading on a display rather than four discrete steps.
Stainless probes driven at low current last well for demonstration use. If the project has to run continuously for weeks, the ultrasonic variant avoids contact with the water entirely.
The probe version shows four discrete steps. If you need a continuous percentage on a display, choose the ultrasonic variant.
