Project overview
Four subsystems share one city board: street lights that respond to ambient light, a traffic signal running a realistic timed sequence, a small parking area with occupancy sensing, and a water tank with level indication. Each works on its own, and together they read as a connected system.
The temptation with a smart-city model is to add everything. Four working subsystems that a student can explain properly beats eight that are only decorative — and a judge will always ask about the one you understand least. The layout is deliberately kept to what fits on a transportable board.
Wiring runs under the base to a central controller with terminal blocks, so a knock in transit is repairable at the venue rather than fatal.

How it works
- 1A single controller scans all sensor inputs on each cycle.
- 2The LDR reading sets the street lighting state for the whole board.
- 3The traffic signal advances through its timed sequence independently of the other subsystems.

Can we add or remove subsystems?
Yes. The four included are the ones that demonstrate best in the space available, but the layout can be adjusted. Discuss it before the build starts, as it affects the board size and the timeline.
How is it transported?
On a rigid base with tall elements kept low or detachable. It needs a car or an auto rather than a two-wheeler — worth planning for before exhibition day.
