Four load channels are controlled by relays driven from an ESP32, and each channel can also be operated by its own physical switch. The dual control matters: an automation project where the wall switch stops working is not an improvement, and examiners ask about exactly that.
State is synchronised in both directions, so toggling a physical switch updates the phone dashboard and vice versa. The controller keeps the last known state in non-volatile memory and restores it after a power cut rather than coming back with everything off.
For classroom demonstration the model drives lamps and a fan at low voltage on a mounted board. Where a mains-switching version is genuinely required, the high-voltage section is enclosed, fused and labelled — this is discussed and agreed before the build.
The standard build is a low-voltage demonstration model, which is safe to carry and set up in a classroom. A mains version with a fully enclosed and fused high-voltage section is possible — discuss it before the build starts.
The physical switches keep working and the relays hold their state. The dashboard resynchronises when the connection returns.
