Ten electrical project topics that produce numerical results, with a note on how to keep each one safe to demonstrate.

Why electrical projects assess well
Electrical topics have an advantage most other streams do not: the results are numbers that come straight out of your syllabus. Power factor, efficiency, trip time, energy captured — each is directly comparable with theory you have already been taught.
That makes the viva easier to prepare for, because the questions are predictable. The examiner will ask you to relate your measurement to the theory, and you will have both in front of you.
Safety is part of the design, not an afterthought
A student project should not have an exposed mains circuit. Build at low voltage wherever the principle can still be demonstrated — 12 V or 24 V proves most concepts perfectly well and is safe to carry into a classroom.
Where mains genuinely has to be involved, the high-voltage section must be enclosed, fused and clearly labelled, and it should never be demonstrated without a staff member present. Say all of this in your report; departments mark it.

Presenting an electrical project
- Take readings across several conditions, not just one. Three points make a trend; one makes an anecdote.
- Photograph the meter readings as you take them — examiners sometimes ask for evidence.
- State your measurement uncertainty. It is expected at this level and rarely provided.
- Have a safe way to induce the fault condition you are demonstrating.
